Parent Education ServicesFlorida Hospital offers a complete range of classes for the whole family: Prepared Childbirth (Lamaze classes)
We provide a four-week course and a one day class. The class includes preparation for labor and delivery, and Lamaze-prepared childbirth techniques. All instructors are certified to teach the Lamaze method. The $125 fee for the series or one day class also covers the additional Baby Care, Breastfeeding and Anesthesia classes. Birthing Basics
This is a 2 1/2 hour class covering basic information and a tour of labor and delivery. This class does not include Lamaze techniques. The $70 fee covers the class and additional Baby Care, Breastfeeding and Anesthesia classes.
Baby Care Intended for first-time and adoptive parents, this class covers the basics of baby care: diapering, feeding, bathing and more. There is a $25 charge; however, there is no charge for those attending prepared childbirth classes. For class locations or to register, call 407/303-1518 or 407/303-2599. Maternity Tour & Orientation Tours of the labor and delivery area are included in the childbirth class series. If you do not attend this series, this free program includes information on Florida Hospital maternity services in addition to the tour. Call 407/303-1518 for dates and directions. Anesthesia for Childbirth This class is designed especially for women choosing epidural anesthesia and is led by an anesthesiologist. Breastfeeding This class is taught by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and covers the basics of breastfeeding. There is a $25 charge for this class, and a $10 book is optional. The class is free for those attending prepared childbirth classes. This class, designed for children who are expecting a new brother or sister, is held once a month. A children's film on pregnancy and birth is shown, followed by a demonstration of holding, feeding and diapering an infant. The children also tour the maternity unit (not labor and delivery). Each child should bring a doll or teddy bear to class. No pre-registration is necessary. Cost is $20 per family. For more information, call 407/303-1518 or 407/303-2599.
Breast Feeding Friendship Network
This support group for new moms and their babies is held weekly and features speakers who discuss topics on being a new parent and breastfeeding. There is a charge of $8 (or 3 meetings for $20); includes a light lunch. Support groups meet from 12:00 - 1:00 at:
