Imaging Services

Women & Imaging

At Florida Hospital, we recognize a woman's many unique imaging needs. Your body calls for special services like mammograms for breast cancer screening, 4D Ultrasound for the health of you and your unborn child, DEXA Scan for the prevention of Osteoporosis and UFE, a minimally invasive alternative for uterine fibroids.

Mammography

The key to an easy and successful breast cancer treatment is early detection through a screening mammogram. To make it as painless and easy on you as possible, our skilled and compassionate staff will perform your mammogram with gentleness and care.

4D Ultrasound

You can now see moving pictures of your unborn baby with the GE 4D Ultrasound at five convenient Florida Hospital locations. 4D Ultrasound provides the fourth dimension – moving images in 3D – enhancing the ultrasound experience by providing surface rendered images of your baby. This unprecedented image technique coupled with 2D imaging allows physicians to monitor your baby’s development like never before. 4D Ultrasound also enhances the bonding experience for you and your family as you actually see your unborn baby for the first time. This 4D Ultrasound is complimentary when your physician prescribes you an ultrasound between the 24 – 34 weeks of pregnancy at Florida Hospital.

DEXA Scans

Osteoporosis affects about 10 million Americans yearly, with 18 million more suffering from low bone density. DEXA Scan measures the density of your bones helping physicians diagnose osteoporosis, particularly in the early stages before broken bones and fractures occur. DEXA scans are recommended by The National Osteoporosis Foundation; the procedure is painless, quick, inexpensive and involves low radiation exposure.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)

It’s estimated that around 80% of women in the United States may have Uterine Fibroids. The majority of women do not have symptoms, but 1 in 4 will end up with symptoms severe enough to require treatment. Knowing the treatment alternatives is key to making a better decision. Uterine Fibroid Embolization is a minimally invasive procedure that could be your best-suited choice.
Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a relatively new approach to the nonsurgical treatment of uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids are benign (non-cancerous) tumors of the uterus. They don’t always cause symptoms, but their size and location can lead to problems in some women, including pain and heavy bleeding. UFE is a less invasive technique that blocks the flow of blood to the fibroids, depriving them of the oxygen and nutrients they require to grow.

The procedure is performed by an interventional radiologist, a specially trained radiologist who uses x-ray imaging to guide the procedure. The presence of fibroids is most often confirmed by an abdominal ultrasound or an MRI or CTA scan. Appropriate treatment depends on the size and location of the fibroids, as well as the severity of the symptoms.
