Cardiovascular ServicesWomen & Cardiovascular HealthCardiovascular disease is the number one threat to a women’s life in the United States, yet many women have never discussed the disease with their doctor. Nearly twice as many U.S. women die of heart disease and stroke than from all forms of cancer. Until recently, there has been a misconception that cardiovascular disease is more prevalent among men and Florida Hospital is working hard to change this perception. All too often, women make caring for others a priority over caring for themselves. Symptoms like chest discomfort or nausea may be ignored as a small inconvenience rather than a warning sign. Unfortunately, women are more prone to take notice of these symptoms in others over themselves. Heart disease is often known as the “silent killer”; the nickname stems from the fact that many people ignore the warnings signs attributing them to something minor, such as heartburn or just being worn down. A number of screenings, seminars and lectures are available to educate and inform women of all ages on the importance of maintaining a healthy heart.
