Breastfeeding allows you to provide your child with nutrition and nurturing that is so important during the early stages of life. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics says breastfeeding alone can satisfy your infant’s entire nutritional needs for the first six months of life. Breastfeeding also gives you quality time with your child, where they can feel safe, secure and loved.

Why You Should Breastfeed
Breastfeeding is good for the baby and the mother. A mother’s milk has just what your baby needs – fat, sugar, water and protein – all in the right amounts. Most babies digest mother’s milk better than formula and the antibodies in the milk can help fight infection and disease. In addition to creating a close bond between mother and child, nursing uses up extra calories so it’s easier to shed pounds gained while pregnant.
Lactation Consultants
To help you with breastfeeding, Florida Hospital Lactation Centers have a team of 21 internationally board-certified Lactation Consultants on hand to answer your questions, provide consultation, arrange for breast pumps and teach you how to properly breastfeed. They are there every step of the way, so you can learn to breastfeed correctly and successfully.
Breastfeeding Friendship Network
Once a week breastfeeding moms and babies meet at the Lactation Center at all four of our Florida Hospital locations to discuss issues, share information and swap stories.
